Tenril's History - Lunaegan Metal working

The Big Quake mentioned in this post and shown to have given metallurgy to the Xipilians in this post, did the same for the Lunaegans. The Big Quake created a big cliffside in the middle of the forests that the Lunaegans call home. The cliff, upon discovery, was seen as an opportunity for expansion and a gift from Tenril. There are many veins of minerals and raw ore, which the lunaegans initially used in their natural state. Some of the ore was more malleable and thus popular for utility and creating jewelry. Crystals and other precious jewels found on the cliffs and caves were combined with vines to create jewelry as well.

Upon seeing the Xipilians and their weapons and adornments, an internal discussion started about whether or not to use heat and fire to achieve the same results. The use of fire goes against their nature, and in the forests, it brings many dangers with it. The explorations into the caves were easy enough since the Lunaegans were used to the cold of the night, though the lack of moonlight started to pose an issue. The use of lunar-infused water alleviated part of this worry specifically since the water glows and provided the Lunaegans with the necessary energies, which meant they were able to uncover the whole cave system. The cave system itself revealed more ores and crystals, and a deep lava pit. The lava pit provided a solution to their fire issue since they were able to use the lava to smelt the ores and let them make different weapons and jewels like the Xipilians. This solution was seen as a secondary gift to be able to use all the resources from the caves and cliffs. Specific Lunaegans offered to be the ones to spend their days in the cave to create the things that were requested. Using the metal, they created weapons for the guards and messengers to help them ward off the predators and protect themselves.

A scholarly Lunaegan who was working with a guard figured out that when metal items hit each other, the ringing sound scares off nearby animals. They decided to work together to figure out to what extent the ringing sounds could scare off animals, and how it affected each one differently. The scholar commissioned a small bell to be made and the guard used it, figuring out that the bell works to scare off predators without harming them directly. The bell was successful in most cases, and thus each of the messengers was equipped with one after the discovery was made. On top of that, a bigger version was created for each village in order to ward off bigger groups of predators in a safer more efficient way. If a guard or messenger wants to hide, they can simply hold the bell and it won’t make any sound, and when they need to use it they can let it go and the ringing starts. The ring of the bell also started warning others nearby that a guard or messenger was spotted by a predator and others nearby would know there was a predator nearby and come to the aid of the Lunaegan that was spotted by it.

The usage of the bells caused the messengers and guards to be even more effective in their jobs and the scholar that created the bells held a high rank in the capital city of the Lunaegans for a long time because of this discovery and invention. The bells are awarded to guards and messengers when they graduate from their training and are strong enough to patrol and go out on their own, and Lunaegans with bells on their weapons are respected.
