Xipilian Social Ceremonies

Ceremonies

The Xipilians take great pride in the longevity of their religious ceremonies, guided by the heads of the religious faction,  and everyone is expected to partake in them.

Solar Eclipses

During solar eclipses, the Xipilians hold a grand festival of light with a big pyre and lots of displays of pyrokinetics. They do this to show Sotechli they support him and help him fight off Lunnadian’s encroach upon his time. They use powdered colored sand, which they throw into the air in celebration, to show Lunnadian their close connection with Tenril and tell her she should stop her jealous pursuit. The pyre is fueled by the solar magic-induced plant life and the Xipilians themselves. It is ignited by the current monarch at the moment Lunnadian first touches Sotechli. After the initial ignition, the rest of the Xipilians all send a bolt of fire into the pyre as well to show unity and support.

The size of the pyre and the height of the flames show the current might of the Xipilians, and thus everyone works hard to make sure each pyre is bigger than the last. If the pyre is ever smaller or fails, big changes are called for to reinforce the strength of their society for the next year. Due to the great size of the pyre, it is set up outside of the city to ensure its safety. They also want to show their connection to Tenril by leaving the safety of their city and relying on Tenril to protect them, like how it was when Sotechli initially created them.

Marriage

Proposals and marriages are big events that are mainly attended only by the faction members of the pair and a representative from the religious faction officiates the marriage. There are rituals for each pair to partake in, in which they focus on the progression from life before and after the marriage. During the ceremony, they have to give something important to their partner for safekeeping to show a never-ending trust. They also have to burn something from their childhood to show their dedication to the other and their free willingness to let go of the past to look to the future. The items have to be of importance to them and thus most things that a Xipilian child takes interest in are kept by the child's parents.

The wedding attire for both brides and grooms is made of special fire-resistant fibers different from their usual attire. Both individuals pass through a wall of fire to cleanse themselves and be the purest form of themselves before tying the knot. If a solar flare happens during the wedding ceremony, it is seen as Sotechli approving of the union and blessing the couple.

Funerals

Funerals are typically stricter in attendance since the Xipilians put extra emphasis on being sent off properly. The deceased's funeral is organized by the religious faction, their faction leader, family, and the housemates they lived with. The funeral is always a cremation with the pyre being lit by those closest to the deceased. The bodies of scouts and soldiers who die on duty are recovered and taken back to the city to still get the proper funeral that they deserve.

The funerals are festivals of light and life, celebrating the deceased person's accomplishments. In the days leading up to the actual funeral, the body is prepared through rituals that ensure that Sotechli will send them to their proper afterlife. Those in charge of these rites are a closed-off section of the religious faction, and the rites are done in private.
