Social Structure; Xipilian City

Central City

The central city that all the Xipilians call home surrounds the central palace of the royal family. Both the palace and the city are split up into different sections for each faction to live and work in.

When children reach a specific age, they leave their parents' faction and start living in the palace section designated as a school. There they will get the chance to try out subjects related to each faction so they can find their match, and once they graduate they will live with their chosen faction.

Faction Sections

Within each section, there are multiple buildings for the members to live in, all with big common rooms and cabin-like sleeping quarters. Only those who have proven themselves worthy are granted fully private rooms. These rooms are seen as a symbol of status. Anyone can challenge the current owner of a private room to take it from them. Other than the winner gaining access to the private room, there are no physical punishments for losing in the challenge. If the one that called for the challenge loses, they will have to bear the social punishment as they are seen as thinking too highly of themselves and they will have to once again prove that they are humble. In the case that the challenger is of a younger generation and wins, it is taken as a sign that the older generations should start thinking about retiring their positions to the younger generation in the name of progress.

Royal Court

The Xipilian city has a big building in the heart of it with a central building as well as a square ring around it that has private sections for each of the members of the royal court. The court members all oversee the different factions and are mostly based on lineage. The central building is home to the current ruler, King Lukairon, which is also based on lineage. The king or queen is typically chosen from the offspring of the current king or queen based on their magical prowess. The one with the strongest fire will be the one to be the crown prince or princess. The royal court works similarly, with the only difference being that anyone in the family can become the next court member, not just the children of the current one.

Messengers

There is a faction of messengers that will keep their eyes on the sky for the different signals given out by outposts and scouts, as well as traveling between the different outposts and the capital city when truly necessary. They deliver specimens of different plants to be investigated by alchemists and herbalists. The messengers are also in charge of making sure that the members of the Royal court are always brought up to date on current events so that they can discuss them with the current Monarch. They also keep the current Monarch updated on the progress and happenings of the mines.

Justice System

In the city, the military faction is in charge of keeping the peace and enforcing the rules. Those who commit a crime and are found guilty by the jury will be given a punishment equal to the crime they committed. The jury mainly comes from the religious faction, since the decision is made in part by a ritual to ask for Sotechli’s opinion on the matter, but there is at least one member for each faction. There are multiple stages to the punishments someone can receive depending on the severity of the crime. This ranges from being temporarily disgraced and needing to live with the retired faction for a certain amount of time for petty crimes, to having your horns damaged or removed entirely for severe crimes against the city or the royal court members. This rarely ever happens, and when it does it is made into a public event so that everyone knows the crime and the punishment.
