Tenril's History - The Grand Solar Flare

A grand Solar Flare

The biggest solar flare that’s been recorded by the Elves and Tieflings since their societies started forming has great cultural and religious meanings to both races. The solar flare was big enough and strong enough to scorch a piece of Tenril and made it near impossible for anything to grow.

Xipilian Perspective

The grand solar flare is seen as a gift and a sign from Sotechli about what they have to do. They saw the flare get bigger and bigger in the sky and felt its power as it reached Tenril and scorched the surface. There was a small group of scouts nearby when it happened, and they saw that the forest was heavily burned. In the central city, there was an uprising in the form of a show done by the ancestors of the current reigning ruling family showing the great strength of the bloodline. They showed they could draw immense amounts of power even with smaller solar flares in the following days, earning them the title of Royal Monarch from then on, setting the bar for the strength and power-based hierarchy system the Xipilians follow to this day.

The grand flare is seen as the first sign of Lunnadians' grip on Tenril weakening and Sotechli’s ability to reach out and touch Tenril getting stronger. The grand flare gave strength to the royal family in particular. The extra power that the current royal family was able to produce using the energy of the grand flare was a sign of them being chosen to lead them by Sotechli himself, especially since the current king could not draw on the strength of the grand flare at all. Wanting to celebrate Sotechli’s seeming victory and the rise of a new age with a new king, the Xipilians celebrated with a huge bonfire that burned for weeks. They also started to claim more land for the deserts for themselves, as their scouts had found the forests shortly before the solar flare. They saw the grand flare burning the forest and when they brought this news to the city, the new king decided that it is their duty to use the flames given by Sotechli to burn the forest under Lunnadian’s control. This is in the hope to weaken Lunnadian enough to allow Sotechli to once again come close and console and help Tenril grow life in the deserts.

Lunaegan Perspective

The terrible solar flare is seen as an attack of Sotechli and him taking Lunnadian by surprise. The forest that was destroyed became a scar on Tenril. The Lunaegans set out to heal this scar with their magic given by Lunnadian. This is when the messengers first discovered that drinking the water from the beaker plants gave them a boost in strength, further down the road leading to the discovery of infusing water with the magical essence of the flowers. The flare was during the day when Lunnadian had to relinquish the sky to Sotechli, and thus Lunnadian could not protect Tenril from Sotechli's rage. The flare had such power and ferocity that the Lunaegans in nearby settlements were woken up by the sheer force of it. The Lunaegans, working hard to douse the flames and prevent the fire from spreading, worked through the days in shifts. This led to them becoming weakened, and some even died, because of the flames and exhaustion of working during the day. The scar in the woods still is not fully healed, and groups of Lunaegans keep returning to it to aid the plant life's growth and help it to take root in the scorched land.

In the following nights, there was heavy rainfall, seen as a gift from Lunnadian, which put out the last of the flames and filled some of the scorched lands, creating a lake filled each time there was rainfall. To soothe Tenril about this scar the Lunaegans hold annual ceremonies every year on the anniversary of the flare. They float flowers collected over the year onto the lake to try to heal the scorched land underneath the water. Over time the lake itself began to grow underwater plants with the magical essence of the sinking flowers the Lunaegans floated into it. These plants absorb the magical essence of the moon, and the lake became a sight of healing injuries that healers aren’t able to heal themselves. However, the journey to the lake can still be dangerous, so it’s only done if necessary. They take small amounts of water in beaker plants back to the capital village.

The fact that the water has the ability to be infused constantly with Lunar magic made it so that the forest around it grows extremely well. The lake is dependent on rainfall to be filled however and thus if the water is deemed too low the Lunaegans won’t take any of it. This is also why they only use it if they really need it, and their own powers aren’t enough.
