Hear the Grass between your Toes
Tenril » Devlog
Variety is essential in any game, especially when it comes to sounds. It helps set ambience and greatly helps with a players immersion. As such, instead of hearing the same footsteps wherever you go, you will now get to hear different footstep sounds based on the type of surface you move over.
Watch a simple preview below of a user walking over different surfaces and getting different (even blended) sounds;
The system behind this is relatively simple. Whenever a character takes a step, the game will check for what textures are active at that point. This will then be compared against an already created list of textures with a list of associated sounds to randomly pick from.
Happy running and stay tuned for our next devlog!
