Culture: Xipilians Mythology

Religion

Due to the rift that was pushed between the Xipilians and Lunaegans, their once strongly connected religions have changed over time to reflect this rift between races. The solar bodies being so integral to their respective biomancy and pyrokinetic abilities have made it so that all the Lunaegans and Xipilians respectively have a strong connection to their religion and deity since they quite literally give them strength to survive and use their abilities. For both races, it is not an option to not be religious because the proof of the myths is evident in their everyday lives.

The overlap.

There is still some overlap that exists, for example in the creation story that is told. The deities of the sun, Sotechli, and the moon, Lunnadian, started with a good relationship. Due to this relationship, they entered a never-ending dance. The connection between the two created the planet. The name for this new planet was Tenril, which lived in the center of their parents. The planet is trying to turn in time with their parents. Both Sotechli and Lunnadian gave gifts to Tenril in the form of people to inhabit them. Lunnadian created Lunaegans to inhabit Tenril’s many forests and mountains. Sotechli created the Xipilians that would inhabit desolate places like the deserts.

This is where the religions start to differ due to the rift in the races Sotechli and Lunnadian created. This drift between the two deities is what makes relationships between races a taboo and something that is seen as a bad thing by both sides. Having a child in this manner is even worse.

The Xipilians

According to the Xipilians, Sotechli created their race in order to comfort Tenril. Tenril had felt bad that there were areas on them where they could barely grow anything themself. Sotechli wanted to help and gave Tenril pointers. Tenril was able to grow plants with the help of their father and the Xipilians, and because of this Tenril decided they wanted the Xipilians to have sufficient space to live as well. Lunnadian became jealous of the relationship between Tenril and Sotechli. In response,  she pushed Sotechli away and ordered her Lunaegans to take more of Tenril than they had because of her greed and possessiveness over Tenril. Sotechli is constantly trying to get back and closer to Tenril and sends solar flares to reassure Tenril and show the Xipilians he has not given up and still cares about them. To the Xipilians the stars encircling Tenril are another way that Lunnadian shows her possessiveness. They are purely there to make it so that, even when she herself isn’t present in the sky, she can still see and prevent Sotetchli from getting closer. Each time a star falls, they see it as a victory for Sotechli and the strongest of the Yoatlans (warriors) that help him after death and signify this as chipping away at Lunnadian’s defenses.

They believe that after death, depending on when they die and how strong they were in life, they return their essence to the desert and become the invisible force that takes over control of flames once they are created and causes fire to spread. The Yoatlans who showed exceptional feats of strength can use this strength to try and reach Sotechli to deliver messages to him and help him take out stars that block his way.
