Character Backstory: Liliana
This post is going to go over the backstory of one of the two main villain characters of the story, Liliana. The two of them were the big starting point of this game, and thus the story is bound to be updated and changed along the way, as well as include a minor spoiler. The first two paragraphs are the same as Aamanon's backstory post, since they were inseparable as children, their early childhoods were the same.
The two grew up being outcasts in their Xipilian community because they were a mix of the two main races on Tenril. In their early childhood, they were living in an outpost by the border of the desert and forest, the geographical split of where each of the races lived. In their village, most of the other villagers were soldiers due to it being at the border. Their mother had a hard time raising them due to the way they were conceived. Their horns took a long time to grow which caused them to be even more cast out by the other children. The Xipilians take pride in their horns since the size typically reflects their individual strength. This painted their youth with a lot of hatred towards the elves, Meztlians to them, and made both of them very keen to prove themselves as strong.
When they were still young, their village was attacked when tensions between the soldiers, Yaotlans, in their village and the Meztlians rose. Both of them being very keen to show their strength despite their weaker appearance went into the battle as well in order to prove themselves. This was seen by one of the high generals, Abaidon, who saw their strong fighting spirit while being still very young and he decided to take them to the capital city to train. They took this chance and went with him, being effectively adopted by him in the process.
When they started training, it became clear relatively quickly that Liliana was very good with alchemy, with a great affinity for learning and planning. Similar to Aamanon, she has a lesser connection to Sotechli, and so she started creating potions and inventing new recipes, as well as figuring out many new different ways to use the things around her. Due to her not having as much mana as others, she was very eager to find potions, creams, or even powders in order to give herself more mana and energy. She will still stay up for days on end in order to finish her experiments.
Her experiments and inventions, which she was able to try out in the desert and in battle with Abaidon’s permission, caught the attention of even King Lukairon. He started to oversee her progress, just as Aamanon got his help, he gave Liliana personal tutelage as well. He gave her access to the big greenhouse in the center of the castle, making it so that she could do personal research into all the vegetation known to the Xiplian kind. These personal notes led her to be able to make the thing she is most praised for, the flash bombs that can give even common soldiers a small temporary boost in mana when detonated.
Due to her close relationship with her twin brother Aamanon, she was able to try out all sorts of potions and experiments on the front lines. To make herself more useful, she became very proficient in battle planning, creating new ways of taking over the forest and weakening the Meztlians. She joins each fight, while she doesn’t join the actual front lines, she stays in the second line which launches the flash bombs and has a form of communicating with Aamanon in order for them to quickly switch up their strategies. Her cunning and quick wit gave her the ability to quickly rise through the ranks and now, just like her brother, she is part of the trusted circle of the King.
Due to her only seeing the aftermath of the battle and how it affects the fighters, and seeing her brother getting more and more depressed as he fights, her hatred towards the Meztlians grows stronger. When she finds out that during one of the raids Aamanon wasn’t with the returning party, she gets very concerned for his wellbeing, and wants to do everything she can in order to get him back. She sends out searching parties and pushes for more and more attacks in order to find out where they are keeping him and to try and get him back. The other generals are split on her approach, some thinking it’s a distraction and working against her, and others wanting Aamanon back as well. This does make their forces more chaotic and unpredictable.
