Lunaegans Guard Training Weapons
Hey everyone!
This week I wanted to show some of the props I currently have up close. In the picture, you can see the 3 Lunaegan training weapon models. The weapons are meant to serve as backup weapons for the guards/guard trainees in the clearing where they do their practice. From left to right, we have a quarterstaff, a magic staff, and a short sword.
The base for these weapons is wood. The Lunaegans only use resources that can be found in their forest and don't usually process or alter these resources in any way other than with a bit of magic. Since wood is easy to find, sturdy, and easy to shape, it is the preferred material for most things in Lunaegans communities. Another common material is cloth, which they weave themselves. This is primarily used for the grip of their weapons. Another common practice in Lunaegans communities is the use of vines as ropes to hold things in place, like the magical crystals in the magic staffs.
The two materials used in these weapons that require a bit more work to acquire and process are the magical crystals and the metal. The metal they use comes from a big rift that rose up in the Lunaegans territory after the Big Quake. The Lunaegans don't refine the metal before using it, but instead, just sharpen the shards and cut them into the shapes they need. The magic crystals come from around the area of the large lake that is charged with lunar mana. At the same time the lake was created, small pockets of crystallized mana were formed around this area as well. The crystals can be harvested and carved carefully, but use their ability to hold mana when they crack. If the crystal runs out of mana but isn't damaged, it can be recharged at the lake at which they are found.
Another small thing to note about this particular set of weapons is that they lack any sort of decorations other than the small bell that all Lunaegan weapons have. This is because these weapons are just spare weapons for training and don't need decorations. Higher quality and personal weapons will have more decorations like vines, extra bells, and pouches with herbs.
As for the models themselves, the base models that are used are low poly. To get the bark detail on them, I used a mix of high poly sculpted models and textures that are baked onto the low poly models. The high poly models can be seen in the picture below.
If you'd like to see the models in more detail and from different angles, you can check them out on sketchfab: https://skfb.ly/otGLq
